    Story

Golborne Sports Junior Football Club & Golborne High School are currently having a fundraising campaign to help to secure the sports fields and upgrade changing facilities. The sports fields are being constantly vandalised by motorbikes, quads & 4x4 vehicles and at present they can be accessed by anyone as the area isn’t fenced off. We have 6 football pitches, 1 rugby pitch and an athletics area which is also used by other community groups. The majority of our home games are continually being called off due to this vandalism and this is now drastically affecting the chances of anyone playing sport on these fields.

After a lot of time and effort and with great help from the school, we have now received permission to erect a fence but we do need to fund the whole project ourselves. Once the fence is built, at a cost of £5,028.00, we can then look at properly maintaining the sports fields and carry out drainage work but until they are secure then this is just wasted money. We are also looking to refurbish the school changing rooms which are very tired and dated and although our target of £5,000 won’t cover this cost too, it will give us a good start. We hope to reach our fundraising target by the 8th July, the date of the School Summer Fair. There will be a variety of stalls and activities taking place and the football club will be hosting a bubble football event on the all-weather pitch. If we do fall short of our target then we are hoping that this event will carry us over the line!

We are looking to get as many people as possible behind this campaign and with the 2017/18 season being Golborne Sports JFC’s 25th anniversary, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate this with finally having our pitches protected and playable. The focus of our club is and always has been on the children and creating the correct environment for them to have fun, engage, develop and excel in football and we hope this successful campaign helps us to continue to achieve this.

Another quick update with just under a month to go! The vandalism issues with the new fence seem to have calmed down so next week we will be fully repairing this and installing CCTV. We will also be fitting a motorcycle inhibitor at the end of Rothwell Road which should hopefully stop not only the 4x4 vehicles but bikes too. The fields will then be totally secure and safe for the kids to play on again but all this work will need paying for in 30 days time so we now need your support more than ever. Thanks once again for all your efforts!

Another quick update: The fence has only been up a few weeks but has already been damaged twice. This to place over the first 2 weekend's but it does seem to have calmed down now. Temporary repairs have been carried out to make this section of the fence secure and the school have agreed to instal cctv to cover this area. Once the cctv is fitted we can then properly repair the small section of fence and although the cost is not great for this it will come out of our fundraising. We still desperately need your help & donations for this project.
