A defibrillator (AED) is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it’s an essential life saving step in the chain of survival.

Where goPhysio is located in Chandlers Ford, there is very limited access to a public access AED. Given that we’re in a very busy, central location – we thought it would be a great idea to provide one for the local community. So, in 2017, with help of some local businesses and our community, we funded the installation of a public access AED.

Aside from the daily cost of keeping the AED connected to power so it is ready to use at any time, AEDs also have ongoing maintenance costs. The pads and battery have to be replaced on a regular basis. So, we are raising funds to help with covering the cost of maintaining the public access AED. Thankfully, it's never had to be used. But ensuring it is well maintained is crucial, should it ever be needed.

Given how crucial AEDs are at increasing survival rates from a cardiac arrest outside of hospital, if you would like to contribute towards the maintenance costs, we'd really appreciate it. A £500 pot would help to cover the cost of a replacement battery (every 4 years) and adult and paediatric pads (every 2 years).
