    Story

The East coast of Africa is important for migrating humpback whales from Antarctica and there is increasing danger from oil and gas exploration and port development threatening the local cetacean population.

Help our appeal to support Watamu Marine Association and the Kenya Marine Mammal Network to safeguard whales and dolphins by assisting Malindi-Watamu and other Kenyan sites to achieve a standard worthy of becoming a new Whale Heritage Site.

These Whale Heritage Sites are becoming the gold standard for responsible whale watching destinations worldwide. But they also have so much more to offer. By interweaving natural and cultural elements and placing communities at their very heart, these sites will become places where environmental education, sustainability, and habitat protection will ensure that people respect, celebrate, and protect cetaceans and their habitats long into the future.

More information can be found on the Whale Heritage Site website at
    http://whaleheritagesites.org/

World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) is a British charity working nationally and internationally to save cetaceans in our seas and the world’s oceans, and strives to improve the quality of life for local communities reliant upon the sea. WCA has already raised £500 for two Kenyan researchers to attend the first ever World Humpback Whale Congress in Madagascar.

Dear all, Jane and her fellow colleagues in the Watamui Marine Association are delighted with our support through CrowrdFunding to help active conservation in Kenya. A special big thank you to our first donor Carly Gunn, Jane says that this will really help the whales and dolphins in Kenya. We have just seen that unfortunately Justgiving does not provide us with contact details of donors to let us give each and everyone a personal big thank you, so we hope that you can see the thank you's here on this page. Another 63 days to go.......
