Story
Green-Up Gambia
The Gambia is one of the smallest and poorest countries in Africa. In recent years a great many of its trees have been cut, particularly mahogany and rosewood and the country has been decimated.
An inspiring group of youths who have great concerns regarding climate change and the environment formed a group called Green-up Gambia and have been extremely active working with communities to plant trees. This year they have the One Youth One Tree campaign and they hope that every youth in The Gambia will plant and nurture a tree. Tree planting will help to alleviate climate change, help to stop land erosion, fruit trees planted will provide healthier diets for the population and some trees will provide shade , timber and food for the honey bees.
Their enthusiasm has been inspiring and they are now being approached by communities through out the country for help, support and advice with trees. They have great plans to beautify the streets of the cities as well as plant trees in their communities. They are also going to schools and educating and inspiring the school children and students from The University of The Gambia https://www.facebook.com/1763374967254531/videos/2014896028769089/
We would like to raise £5.000 to help with preparing the trees for planting, organizing transport and buying tree protecting baskets. Much of the hard work is carried out by volunteers but inevitably they will need some cash to prepare and plant 1000,000 trees. If you have visited The Gambia or care about this wonderful country and its people, Please consider making a donation to help these amazing young people to achieve their goals. They deserve all the support that they can get!

I was lucky enough to grow up in The Gambia. My father was a forester, conservationist and an environmentalist. I have been devastated by the tree felling that has taken place and am thrilled at the efforts that these wonderful young people are going to protect our world.
