Weʼve raised £810 to help raise funds for the "Mark McCloskey Foundation" a new charity supporting research into SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy)

Funded on Friday, 30th June 2017

    Story

At the end of August last year, Mark McCloskey, our niece’s husband lost his life to SUDEP, an unexplained death due to epilepsy. He was only 35 years of age. We all knew that Mark had been an epilepsy sufferer for several years but never realised the serious risks that went with the illness. It left all of Mark’s family and friends completely shocked and devastated.

A new charity in Mark’s name is being established called ‘The Mark McCloskey Foundation’, with the aim of raising funds to help research into SUDEP. If answers can be found as to what causes it and how it can be possibly prevented, then other families may not have to suffer.

Paul (my husband) and I want to do our bit to help and in June this year, 2017, we will be raising funds by attempting to cycle approx 120 miles from Carlisle to Cairneyhill in Fife (where Mark lived) over 2 days. I’m not quite sure how I’ll get on with cycling 60 miles in a day and the hills that there will be but I’m determined to give it a go.

If you are able to support Paul and I with a donation of any amount we will be extremely grateful.

Well we did it!!!! 2 weeks ago today on the 15th and 16th June, Paul and I managed to cycle from Scotby near Carlisle to Cairneyhill in Fife. The support and encouragement that we had from friends and family was truly magnificent and certainly played a large part on our success. The first day was tough with wind and rain trying to slow us up but day 2 was a lot brighter and the hills not quite as steep (thankfully). Our target of £500 has been well and truly smashed - thank you to each and every one of you, you are all amazing people. xx

Wow! Thank you so much for the amazing support that everyone has given us. Your words of encouragement and generous donations have given us a tremendous boost to see this challenge through. We have packed the puncture repair kit, the energy bars and the waterproofs so all in all we're ready to set off any day now, just hoping it won't be too wet or windy!! Thanks again.
