In March 2018 I will be travelling to Haiti and staying in Port-Au-Prince for two weeks with Tearfund.

Tearfund work tirelessly to help communities around the world escape the very worst effects of poverty and disaster. They believe that the same people facing these troubles, also have the best idea as to how they can overcome them. Tearfund listens: helping people to rise out of their poverty, utilising their resourcefulness and determination. Tearfund works alongside local churches and other locally-based organisations to help realise these plans for a better future.

In the aftermath of repeated natural disasters such as the 2010 earthquake and 2017 hurricane Irma, there is opportunity to play our part in helping Tearfund restore broken communities. Such events are something I studied in detail during my geography A level and consequently feel passionate about.

But this trip is about more than that; both the UK team and a partnered team of Haitians will be working through a resource called 'Live Justly' in the weeks prior to the trip. We will simultaneously be exploring the wide scope of things that 'poverty' encompasses (environmental and relational poverty - not just material) and how we might seek justice in each of our respective contexts.

Tearfund need me to raise £1350 but I will also need to pay a substantial amount for flights and vaccinations. I am working and saving as much as possible but this will be a stretch! I would really appreciate if you felt able to donate and help get me there. Thank you!
