    Story

Over half a million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance after fleeing violence in Myanmar to seek safety in Bangladesh. Most of the refugees are Rohingya women and children who have been forced to leave their homes in north Rakhine, arriving in Bangladesh exhausted, injured and traumatised after walking for days. More than half of all new arrivals are children, and one in ten are pregnant or breastfeeding mothers. They desperately need shelter, clean water, food and medical aid.Families are living huddled beneath sheets of plastic, with no access to clean water, toilets or sanitary facilities. People have to cook and wash using contaminated water from the same sources. The risk of waterborne diseases spreading in these conditions is high, unless we act now.

Harehills Community Aid are looking to send volunteers across to Bangladesh (covering travel/accomodation expenses themselves) and spending 100% of all your donations in helping the people of Rohinga with emergency Food, Clean Water, Clothing, Shelter & Medical Aid. Despite the election of a nominally-civilian government in November 2015, the new Myanmar Government has not shifted its policies of persecution of the Rohingya. Over 100,000 live in internally displaced persons camps with no freedom of movement or access to food, water, sanitation, healthcare and education. A report released by the International State Crime Initiative at the Queen Mary University of London has concluded that the Rohingya "face the final stages of genocide".

Join us in helping these people. Please donate and help make a small difference.

With the will of Allah we have managed to feed over 4000 people over a two day period. We were also able to donate over 2000 blankets to help the people of Rohingya deal with the coldest winter Bangladesh has seen in over 60 years. Thank you all for your donations.
