    Story

After moving to South Africa in 2006, I met Amanda who has 2 girls Aspen-Jade and Geraldine-Ann. They were 2 and 5 at the time and after a 5-year relationship with Amanda, we parted ways. She said to me on leaving that if the girls wanted to see me, she would never deny them seeing me. For about 2 years after that, almost every weekend they would sleep over.
Then I went away to Mozambique for work and at the end of 2012 I took a 2-month holiday in December and January to visit my parents in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
My Dad had advanced Alzheimer’s disease. My mother being frail herself was glad to have me there. So, I made a decision to stay in Port Elizabeth and help my parents. As a mechanical engineer, I had no trouble finding work.
In September 2013 I noticed my right leg dragging on the ground and when one of the ladies at work pushed me gently, I fell backwards onto the floor.
I went to my GP and he referred me to a neurologist. After several months of tests, I was told I have motor neuron disease, specifically PLS, (Primary Lateral Sclerosis).
I had to stop working as I kept falling, tripping and lost my sense of balance. I started with one crutch, then two, a walker and now I am in a wheelchair.
My father passed away in January 2015, so my mother and I help each other out and things seem to be OK.
Over the last 6 months my ability to swallow has got worse, and I was informed I will need a tracheotomy. Once they do this, I will not be able to speak again.
So, I reach out asking assistance in raising the small sum to fly my two girls and their mother down here to Port Elizabeth for one week. As there is no cure for PLS, this might be my last chance to see them. What scares me is that it will at some point progress to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). So, while I am still feeling positive and can talk, please help me with my last wish, to see my 2 girls one last time.
    Many thanks
    Harvey

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Great people make things happen

Do you know anyone in need or maybe want to help a local community cause?

Create you own page and donʼt let that cause go unfunded!
