Hello!

Starting in August I will be joining Projects Abroad and will be spending 1 month volunteering in Southern Italy. There I will be helping with workshops designed to help refugees, specifically child refugees, become assimilated into Italian life and a different culture. Refugees from around the world have suffered from extreme violence in their home countries. Being forced to move to a country where they do not speak the language, and do not have any idea about the different culture they are living in. These adults and children have experienced such loss in country that they love. This is why I find it important for myself to try and help them feel as comfortable as they can in such a horrific situation.

I look at my time abroad not only as a way to give back but also as a way to gain a better insight into the world around me. While I am volunteering I will be living with a local host family. I believe that the long-term relationships that I hope to make with my project colleagues and host-family will be of great value to me as well as them. At the end of my project I hope to return with a better understanding of the country I’m volunteering in and the people that I have interacted with there.

I will be extremely grateful for any contributions or shares of this page. The money will be used to contribute towards both my host family for letting me stay, and also to help the workshops run.
