We are raising money to support the Sekulic family in the village of Grabovacka Rijeka near Srebrenica, Bosnia.
This is a region that has still not recovered from the tragedy of the Bosnian War, and as a result the living and health conditions of this family are such that they are literally living on the edge of existence.
The mother suffers from mental issues and is not equipped to care for the 4 children, aged 2 months to 12 years, some of whom have health issues of their own. In Bosnia the social welfare system is not developed, so it is left to the mother to try and look after the children as best she can.
The youngest child is 2 months old and has been hospitalised as she was on the edge of starvation. This also happened to the 2 boys last year. One of the boys has vision issues and has had a kidney operation, but there are no facilities to follow up on this.
The father tries to provide as best he can in a region with high unemployment and few job opportunities, especially as he himself is partially disabled.
The place where they are forced to live is filthy, has no running water or sanitation, no heating (with the harsh Balkan winter approaching), no floor and is overrun with cockroaches and vermin. In the Balkans today many people are living in poverty, but the conditions of this family are extreme even by local standards – these children are literally starving to death in medieval conditions.

The money will be used to provide the family with a decent home, some healthcare and a social worker to teach the mother how to cook and better care for the children.
