    Story

This is a picture of patch we took on Wednesday evening, little did we know that then next day our world would be turned upside down. On Thursday we noticed she had a runny nose and sounded snuffly and was tilting her head to the side. We immediately thought it was an ear infection and booked her into the vets. We managed to get he a 5:30 appointment for that evening. As the day progressed she got weaker and more lethargic. We took her to the vet early to see if we could get in and they saw us straight away. They didn't really know what it was and sent us to an animal hospital (still charged us for the visit though) we got to the animal hospital and she was rushed in. After a couple of hours of testing and checking they came to the conclusion that she had developed diabetes and the runny nose was ketones that were being produced and released by her body as she went into shock. There and then on the spot we were given the choice of having her put to sleep or trying to save her. We did not hesitate and went for the latter even though we have no money left from wages after bills as we only have 1 income (due to me being I'll with sepsis and spending 3 weeks on life support last year and have still not fully recovered) we also receive NO help from the government and spend every penny we have on rent, bills, food and our dogs. We never ask for money from anyone but this time we have to as the bill at the moment is at £3000 and climbing. The main brunt of this was all the drugs they needed to stabilise her that first night and to get the acid out of her blood that had built up. We are hoping to have her home next week and have to get all diabetic food in for her and also her insulin and other bits and bobs. We are mainly asking for this help to get us started off with the new things and the 1st part of the bill so that it won't hit us as hard as it is going to. Any help we get will be greatly appreciated and updates will be posted about patches recovery for supporters

Here is the first picture of her at home since we got her back. We have also been to the vets today and payed a little of the bill off with money raised from selling our cameras, PlayStation and any other items in the house that were worth anything. We are feeling very positive with patches progress. Hopefully the costs will stop rising now. We are at £5266.92p. We are so grateful to the staff at queens road veterinary surgery. Any extra funds raised will go to buying bags of dog food for Manchester dogs home at Christmas.

Patch has now been home for a couple of days on her insulin and various other meds. She is keeping strong and carrying on like dogs do. While me and Sabrina panic at any sound she makes. I learned that I seem to have the ability to smell ketones and due to this I can sniff her breath and see if she is going hypo or not. I will keep any donators informed as we go forward. Thanks for your support

I'm James I'm 36 and from Manchester. We have rescue dogs. Last year I spent over 16 weeks in hospital. First I got sepsis and ended up in a coma and on life support for 3 weeks then I got an infection and had a chunk of my belly removed to stop it from spreading..its been tough.
