In July this year, I will be travelling to Romania, via the charity People against poverty, to help change the lives of some of the poorest families in Romania. Romania is an extremely poor country with 52.2% of the country in poverty. 87% of the families have no running water and 50% have no safe drinking water in the summer. We are planning to try to change for one community.

People Against Poverty is a Christian charity who are passionate about alleviating poverty and suffering around the world. With my school and this charity, we plan to do just that in Romania.

What are we going to be doing?
This summer a group of students from St Laurence School, including me, will be travelling to a rural region of Romania (near Transylvania) to start a new project of a Miro farm. We will be starting the project by building an industrial sized poly tunnel in which the local families will be able to grow crops all year-round. This will enable them to not only feed themselves, the livestock we will be bringing in the later stages of the project, but also turn a profit by selling the crops as well. We will also start a series of buildings such as barns, chicken coops and a new home for a family. To offer irrigation inside the poly tunnel we will build a well with a pump system. This will help grow the best crops as well as providing crucial safe drinking water for the families.
Not only this but we also hope to help renovate the local orphanage and socialise with the children and families of the area. Finally, we are also planning on raising enough money to send a tractor over so that they no longer need to use horses to plough the ground and move produce.
