The students at the school I work at, Penrice Academy, have nominated to support Project 3580 in Sierra Leone as their charity of the year 2016/2017. Our overall aim is to raise £10k to send a shipping container full of clothes, toys, school and medical supplies to Kissi Town, Sierra Leone.

As part of the support, I am traveling to Sierra Leone in April, along with 2 other staff members, to volunteer at the Kissi Town camp - helping in the community and sharing the news of Penrice's fundraising efforts!

For those of you who don't know much about Sierra Leone, it is located on the west coast of Africa and has had its infrastructure torn apart by a civil war and, more recently, the Ebola outbreak. More than 60 percent of Sierra Leone's population presently live in poverty. Many people are living under the poverty line at less than £1 per day. The literacy rate is only 41% and 70% of young people in Sierra Leone are unemployed or underemployed as a result.

I am covering the whole cost of my trip to Sierra Leone from my own pocket; this page is for funds for the container full of supplies, which I am attempting to raise through some personal challenges My first challenge, starting on the 5th February, is to eat and drink "under the poverty line" for 5 days. This means that everything I eat and drink each day will total £1 or less. Those who know me will know how much I enjoy food (no chocolate, no cheese, no gin) and how much of a challenge this will be. Therefore I am asking for a donation, any donation - even if it's £1 for 1 day - to support me (I need all the help I can get) and raise some money for a worthy cause.
