    Story

My name is Jim Moriarty (60) and I am Deputy Mayor of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk and I will be running my first organised run for 35 years to raise money for the Mayor's Charity Fund 2017/8 - which in turn is fundraising for the Purfleet Trust and the One to One Project this year. The Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) 10K will take place on Sunday 6th May 2018. This well established run is being staged by Run For All in partnership with Alive Leisure and the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.

I ran/walked the King's Lynn Mini Marathon (approx 20k) in 1983 and have been on the couch for the past 35 years - any encouragement you can give me to help raise money for the Mayor's Charity Fund selected charities detailed below would be gratefully received and passed on, as 10k is not proving as easy as I first thought ! But, to make it a bit more fun, I will do the run dressed as the Mayor.

    Purfleet Trust

The Purfleet Trust was set up as a charity in 1993 to provide help for single homeless people in King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Its services now include housing advice to help people find accommodation, support to help them maintain their tenancies, and a Health and Wellbeing Centre providing a daily hot meal and the opportunity to gain some essential life skills. The centre can be used as a postal address and there is free access to both computers and the telephone.

The organisation relies on charitable donations, including charitable trusts, Crisis, Local Authority, Big Lottery as well as generous donations from the local community.

    One To One Project

The One to One Project was established with charitable status in 1984, to provide long term professional support to adults (aged 18 and over) in West Norfolk who are experiencing emotional and/or social distress and mental health difficulties.

The Project has evolved and developed over the years to meet the needs of its diverse local community and now provides Counselling, Mentoring and Group Work in a comfortable and confidential environment near King’s Lynn town centre or in one of our outreach venues across the county.

Our small friendly gatherings offer people the opportunity to learn tools and techniques; to value themselves, grow in confidence and have more fulfilling relationships.
