Story
We are trying to raise money to buy our friend and colleague Janet Langley a Rise & Recline Chair to try and help her quality of life and to allow her to spend time with her 3 young grandchildren (3 and under) sitting up rather than always being bedbound.
Janet went for an operation on a prolapsed disc in December 2013. Unfortunately the operation was not successful and she has been left with permanent nerve damage due to scar tissue forming on the damaged nerve where the prolapsed disc was.
From early 2014 until she was seen by an orthopaedic surgeon in September 2017, she has been on countless cocktails of pain killers, none of which have given her any relief. Eventually the pain started to interfere with her daily life, to the extent that she can no longer do anything unaided. In July 2017 she took time off work to try to rest and get the pain under control, however this has never happened and she now spends her days lying down. She has also had to move home to Sheltered Housing which has been adapted for her disability.
In September she was given an MRI scan and told that surgical intervention was not available as they could leave her paralyzed and she was referred back to pain management clinic for which there was an 18 month waiting period.
Since November 2017 she has been rushed to hospital 3 times for life saving treatment due to pulmonary embolisms and unintentional opioid overdoses due to being advised by doctors to take the oramorph as much as needed.
Finally Janet was seen by the Pain Management Clinic in April 2018, and has been conditionally approved to have a spinal cord simulator fitted. However there is a 1 to 2 year waiting period for the procedure, so in the meantime, we'd like to give her something to make her life a little more bearable.

6 years agoWe have reached our initial target. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. You have no idea how much it means to Janet to be allowed the opportunity to join the hub of her family again. She will be fitted for a custom chair, so thank you everyone. We would like to get a little extra, to buy her a self propelling wheel chair, which would be another great benefit. Please feel free to keep sharing our page. Thank you.
