Story
Braich Goch – Red Arm is a Community Interest Company set up to facilitate social action and change, especially for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. It is a collective of community artists, activists and participatory action researchers along with an extensive network of supporters working towards social justice.
There’s bunk bed accommodation available - book in advance to be sure of a bed (info@braichgoch-redarm.org or tel: 01654761256). You will need appropriate clothing and good walking footwear if you are going up Cadair.
We’ll be starting at 10.00 a.m. (on the 29th 0f June) from the National Trust car park and Cadair Tea Rooms LL36 9AJ on the A487 map ref: SH 732 115 (meet at Braich Goch if you need a lift) and taking the Minffordd path, led by Javier. Go all the 6 miles, there and back, and climb 893 metres or do a mile and enjoy the scenery – the choice is yours – maybe just have a cake and a cup of tea! Then join together for the Saturday Social evening in the bar at Braich Goch - for food, drink, music, singing and more.
We aim to benefit individuals, community based groups and organisations that are seeking to find ways to work together to combat the sources and effects of inequality, poverty, discrimination and oppression. Braich Goch objectives are:
- Establish Braich Goch Inn/ Bunkhouse as a critical learning & residential centre for the creative use of community groups and organisations working for change within their communities. All the money will be used to:
- Fix the roof
- Pay the builder & the heater (pellets)
- Cover young people's food & Transportation
Suggested minimum sponsorship £20 per person but more if you can raise it - Or cash on the day. Send sponsorship link to as many as you can….SPREAD THE WORD!!!
We will also be raising a glass in memory of our Ros, a founder member of the BG team who sadly died last June. Ros Norton was an ardent walker. She walked for the mere pleasure of it, to think, to reflect, to admire nature. But her most important walking was to take people, who usually don't walk, out into the most spectacular places - from the wilds of the Yorkshire moors, the Peak District, to beautiful Wales. Pembrokeshire was one of her favourite places along with the dramatic Snowdonia National Park. These walks always served the purpose of getting to know people a little better.
From among the many of us who loved Ros, and who believe in her political initiatives, commitment and who worked alongside her, a group has come together to support the "next big project" Ros had in mind in her last years - a collective dream of setting up a critical learning and residential centre for young adults from marginalised communities, (especially those of refugee and migrant backgrounds) that would be our/their very own.
