    Story

I saw a moving drama performed by youngsters from the Alrowwad Youth Theatre from the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem. They spoke about their life under Israeli occupation and were amazed that, in the UK, we can travel where we want and when we want. They explained that their lives are dominated by checkpoints, watchtowers, the separation wall, tear gas, raids, house demolitions, detentions or arrests.

The Alrowwad Youth Theatre is supported by The Amos Trust which is committed to supporting non-violent campaigns that call for justice and equal rights for all who call Palestine and Israel home.

The Amos Trust helps to rebuild demolished Palestinian homes to challenge the injustice of the Israeli government’s use of home demolitions against Palestinian communities.

Home Rebuilds is a practical act of solidarity and non-violent protest. It gives Palestinian families the chance to realise their dream of returning to their home and community.

So, in April 17 I have signed up to go and live in the refugee camp for two weeks and assist in the rebuilding of a Palestinian Home. This will be the fourth year that The Amos Trust has rebuild a home, two remain standing, one was demolished the week after The Amos Trust completed the build.

Please see The Amos Trust website for a moving video of a family who have been assisted in getting back a house they can call their home. You can also see the many other projects that Amos Trust is involved in.

I will be joining a group of over 20 volunteers on the Home Rebuild Trip, we will live and work alongside the local Palestinian community.

I am paying £1,000 to cover travel, accommodation, food, local visits etc.

I am looking to raise another £1,000 to contribute to the cost of building materials and employing local skilled builders.

To start my funding raising, on 12th November I am abseiling off The Jury’s Inn in Derby. Yes, honest, I am!!

Thank you for reading this, please give what you can.

      Update from the Page owner

Hi Everyone It is now just a week before I fly out to Palestine. Over the last few months people have been asking me if it's safe to go to Palestine. Well, the sad terrorist attack in Westminster a few days ago shows that we can be in danger wherever we are. My thoughts are with all those affected. I'm pleased to say I have now raised £730 towards my target of £1,000. Thank you so much for your support. I will update when I get back.

Hi WOW, thanks so much for your continuing support. I am particularly touched by the anonymous donations. Right, a technical bit here: Donations to this Crowd Funding page are not attracting Gift Aid - many thanks to Lesley for highlighting this to me. So, I've opened a different Just Giving page which is linked directly to the Amos Trust and any future donating there will be considered for Gift Aid. The new page is http://www.justgiving.com/Jean-Sharp. So, all this lovely money raised here will be kept by me and sent

As some of you know, I visited Palestine last year. I was very moved by the sights I saw and the people I met and wanted to return to see what I could do in my own little way to assist in getting justice and equal rights for all who live there.
