My friend and teaching colleague Katherine was diagnosed with bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer at just 36 years old. She's had radiotherapy and chemotherapy but it hasn't been as successful as we hoped, although thankfully the cancer hasn't spread further.

There is evidence that a drug called Avastin could help but it is not deemed cost effective enough to be fully funded through the NHS currently.

Katherine needs a minimum of 6 sessions of this drug (possibly as many as 12) and at £1500 a session, needs to raise some serius funds!

Kate was married a little over 2 years at diagnosis, her and her husband have plans for how to spend their future together. Please let's do our best to help them make this happen.

To encourage you all to part with your hard earned cash, I am going to be taking part in a 6 hour endurance race running across the Humber Bridge at the end of October, with the aim of covering as much distance as possible. Those of you who know me will be aware that i'm not a natural/keen runner so this is going to be a tough challenge! The race is 6pm til midnight, so it's going to be cold, windy and probably rainy up there! Just to top off my humiliation, and hopefully to persuade you to part with a bit extra cash, I will be doing all this dressed up as a mime while running with a load of other creepy clowns!
