    Story

Nepal has some of the world's most stunning scenery, but life in rural Nepal is harsh and cruel. The literacy rate and health conditions in rural areas are poor and deficient compared to urban life. The social status of women is far lower compared to men. Without access to education, girls are often forced to marry too young. Complications from childbirth kill many young girls. Without access to adequate healthcare, many young children from poor families or orphanages die from illnesses we are not even scared of in the West.

Education & Health Nepal (UK charity reg 1161452) was founded in 2014 by two friends who had spent three years working in another volunteer organisation in those fields, and wanted to do so much more.

EHN have have taken initiatives to uplift the existing situation of women, orphans and rural communities.

EHN hope to give people the chance of bettering their lives.
Working with local schools to teach English, supporting long term projects helping orphanages create a safe environments for the children, and improving the medical care in the rural farming communities.

I will be trekking to Everest base camp to help EHN to raise funds to provide healthcare and education for these children. This trek will be physically challenging, walking for a minimum of six hours a day, up to 17,600ft elevation, carrying a heavy backpack, through very unpredictable weather conditions. I will be staying in tea houses, and I plan to visit a school set up by EHN on my way to base camp. I will be using any spare space in my bag to pack small toys and things such as coloring pencils for the children. Any donations of these things for me to take with me are also very much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Jessica x
