Hi Everyone,

I am a 2nd year adult student nurse who has been given the amazing opportunity to complete an international placement in Cambodia as part of my nursing training. As 1 of 15 students selected this is such a rare and exciting chance!

In 1975 Pol Pot led the communist forces on a four year genocidal regime in which it is estimated 2 million lives were lost. He wanted to take the country back to 'Year zero' and therefore eliminated educated and intellectual people destroying the healthcare system - it is estimated there was only 10 doctors survived. Since then Cambodia has strived to rebuild, develop and a special effort on training a new generation of health professionals.

Transform Healthcare Cambodia was established to relieve sickness and to promote and protect good health for the benefit of the public, in particular but not exclusively within the Battambang Province through the provision of training to health care workers, education on the prevention of diseases and hygiene.

As a group we will be travelling to Battambang Provincial Hospital to observe how their healthcare system works, we will also participate in the education and training of healthcare professionals offering advice on infection control and management.

It is an amazing opportunity that will not only strengthen my training and career as a nurse, but will provide me with a journey that will influence me for the rest of my life!

The trip is entirely self-funded, therefore me and Lee are doing a sponsored colour run on 16th June to raise funds. The trip itself will cost over £1,500 so anything you can give big or small is very much appreciated :)
