Iʼve raised £1,950 to Improve Kong Kia's quality of life
- Funded on Wednesday, 4th April 2018
Don't have time to donate right now?
Story
Kong Kia is an orphan in Cambodia, he has cerebral palasy and is only mobile via his wheelchair (which he doesn't fit in & has been known to fall out of). He had a younger sister with the same condition but she sadly passed away last year. I am fundraising to raise money for new equipment, a new wheelchair and resources etc. Also if it is at all possible, I would love to bring him back to the UK for my family to adopt him as we are very passionate about giving him a better quality of life than he has here. Below is a photo of his bedroom, as he grows older he will no longer be able to be lifted out of bed. He cannot walk due to the lack of physio and equipment that is available to him here. He experiences serious neglect on a daily basis from his carer. For example we found him hanging off the edge of a bed head first to the ground. He is often not washed or dressed in clean clothes And often doesn't have clean drinking water. The manual handling tends to be very rough.
I have seen all of this first hand and as I'm writing this I have only been here for one full week. Despite all of this the volunteers at Hope School are allowed to take him twice a week from the orphanage for a full day and he is a very loved member of the community at the school and is always smiling and waving. He is a very smart young boy and with the proper help and care he would live a great life. He is able to communicate the things that he wants / needs and it is obvious that he is very aware of what is going on around him, he understands a lot of English too! Please donate if you can and we will see how much we can improve his quality of life here at the school and at home at the orp while we look into adopting him.
Many thanks,
JJ

7 years agoAfter visiting Phnom penhs social welfare office we have got information on what steps we need to take next, there is a law against adoption to the UK from Cambodia due to a trafficking issue many years ago so nothing can be done at the moment this end, Lisa and Paul are going to contact the government in the uk and build up a case, there is still hope! We just have to keep flighting harder for him!
