    Story

Many of you will know Delise and Romina and what they have both been through over the years. But for those of you who don't, here's the story; Delise contracted cancer at the age of two and subsequently lost one kidney. Within a few years the cancer returned and her other kidney was removed so had to spend 60hrs a week on dialysis for 3years . Romina donated her own kidney which served Delise for 11 years but 4 years ago her body started to reject the donated kidney. Now, at the age of 23 Delise has been on the transplant list waiting list for 4years. They have both learnt how to administer dialysis to Delise from home every other day.

Romina is Del's full time carer and has given up her bedroom to make space for the machine- but space and money have always been tight. Their situation has recently worsened, which is why we have set up this page. Last month Delise contracted a rare infection called Keratoderma Blennorrhagicum which causes severe lesions on the hands and feet and which is linked to septic reactive arthritis. This condition has left Delise unable to walk and use her hands. She's currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy and learning how to walk again. Hopefully, after nearly five weeks in hospital, she will be able to return home soon, but she will be mostly wheelchair bound for the foreseeable future. On top of all of this Delise has to undergo up to five hours of home dialysis every other day.

We want to help raise money to make sure that Del and Romina's home is fit for purpose. We think that improving their living environment will really help improve Delise's quality of life.

So, we are trying to raise money for the following; a new orthopaedic bed for Delise, the construction of an outside wheelchair ramp, a new gate and new hygienic flooring throughout their flat . The flat needs modernising throughout - in particular, the kitchen is cramped and hard to work in.

We are looking to raise a minimum of £20,000 to help support our wonderful friend Romina and her beautiful and special daughter Delise in the next stage of their lives. We hope you understand why we are asking for your support at this crucial time for them both. The key is to do everything we can to improve their physical environment. We are asking you to help us by donating whatever you feel appropriate. If it's money that's great - but equally, if you are a bathroom or kitchen supplier, or a builder that knows how to build ramps, this would be a great way to help too.

    Thank you xx

Delise and I are totally overwhelmed by the generosity and love from you all. Today we had great news that Delise will be allowed home and continue her treatment with a visiting home nurse. Her mobility is improving, working with the physiotherapy team and she can now walk a little bit with the use of the frame. This will hopefully mean that she will no longer need a ramp! I am getting quotes for new flooring and a nice orthopaedic bed. Thank you all again for your amazing generosity to help us out at this tough time. Romina X x x
