We are hoping to raise as much as we can for Joan who is a Sister, Aunty, Great Aunty and much loved Friend. We have been waiting on a application for leave to remain here with us her family as she is from South Africa. She came over last Christmas to be with us her family so as not to spend the season on her own after her mums passing. And due to unforseen circumstances she had to put in an application to remain after no longer having a house to return to. And after giving 33 yrs of her life and career in nursing and neonatal work. She found herself in a position of being unable to support herself in keeping a roof over her head.
Whilst waiting to hear about the application she fell ill and has had to undergo 2 life saving operations on her stomach. Resulting in a very lengthy and painful recovery. She has an open wound. Itll be Months before she will be able to get out of bed on her own and walk properly.She has been in hospital just over a month now we have been informed that she will have to pay for her treatment. And it is looking to be a very hefty bill so far. We do not know what the outcome will be. As a family we have been so worried as we cannot pay for her treatment but we hope that with the help from good hearted people we will be able to take the strain off of her financially as she needs to be able to concentrate on her recovery else it could prove detrimental to her. The unexpected medical bill amount is the nhs charges started on 22.8.17 she went into hospital 24th this bill is from above date upto 15th sept inclusive £33,079 and climbing daily we don't know what to do as a family except make a plea on Joans behalf.

In the mean time we will continue to keep her as relaxed and comfortable and keep encouraging her to keep on keeping on. As its not easy to want to keep going when one has such a long road ahead. But her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews need her to be strong.
