    Story

    JOAN'S CATS

I live in a Thai community in Bang Na, Bangkok. Living so far from home with a baby can sometimes be lonely but my village is warm and we feel accepted. A Thai lady called Khun Joan lives on the other side of the road from me. She runs a convenience shop from her home and it is also where 23 street cats find shelter and food.

Joan fears for the safety of the cats living on the streets of Bangkok. She's built up a reputation for rescuing the cats and now kittens are often dropped off at her door. Joan can't bear to turn them away but with nowhere for them to go, many of them spend their lives in cages.

Joan loves the cats and enjoys telling me their names and stories. She helps as much as she can to combat the stray population by desexing the cats and protecting the community and the health of the cats by vaccinating them against Rabies.

However, this is all no easy feat, and many days Joan is struggling to find food to feed the cats. There are three sneezing cats that need to see the vet, to be diagnosed and treated. One cat has already tested positive for FIV (Feline Aids). To prevent illness and spread of serious infections all the cats need the Feline Combo Vaccine. This stands for Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (or upper respiratory infection), which is usually Herpesvirus 1, along with Calicivirus and Panleukopenia. They also need testing for FELV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Aids), and then the vaccinations for these diseases. Additionally, they need the FIP virus (Feline Peritonitis Virus) vaccine. All cats also need monthly heart worm medicine. Without this medical care these cats have a low chance of surviving, let alone getting adopted. There are 5 cats that still need desexing.

I am desperate to improve the conditions for Joan's cats by making sure that they are fully vaccinated and healthy to make it easier for them to find a forever home and get them out of their cages. I am the proud owner of a one-eyed rescue cat, who I rescued from outside a 7/11 when he was just a kitten and I recently successfully treated a cat from nasty wounds and re-homed it. Every life counts. By getting Joan's cats into their best health, we will give them the chance of long lives and help them on their journey to finding loving homes.

Please kindly donate to help Joan's cats. Donations will be gratefully received. Even £1 will make a difference for these cats.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting one of the Joan's cats please contact me at angelicacosgrove@outlook.com .

Joan would also be incredibly grateful for donations including cat food, cat bedding, blankets, towels, cat toys, scratching posts, bowls, some cat brushes, cleaning products, Spot On flea treatment and heart worm tablets. Please email me at angelicacosgrove@outlook.com if you can help.

Thank you so much for reading this.

    Much love,

    Angelica >^.^<

Update! Thank you to everyone who has donated to help Joan's cats. The Big Vaccine Day was a success and the cats are in a much better condition since their vaccines. Sadly, a few of the younger kittens died from an outbreak of Parvo before the vaccine worked. Puck and Horatio were ill on the day of the vaccine so could not receive their jabs. Luckily with strong wills to live they managed to battle through the illness and received the vaccines once they were recovered. The best news is that Maria will go to her new home in a few weeks!😻

Combo vaccines, and ten FELV test kits and 10 FELV vaccines have been paid for and collected ready for the BIG VACCINE DAY tomorrow!!! Tracey and I will set up a clinic in Joan's shop and Kayla, a trainee vet, will check each cat over before we vaccinate them. We are all excited to fill in their individual vaccination record booklets! Once again, thank you to everybody who has donated to make this possible. You are helping to protect these cats from fatal illnesses, as well as helping them on their journey to finding their Forever Homes. 😻

So it's been quite a busy week! First Puck and then Othello came down with suspected Parvo virus! This is fatal in 80% of cases so I hear! With the help of many lovely sponsors (from all over the world and many strangers to me!) and a couple of kind vets, Puck spent the night in the vet on IV before coming home to continue his treatment. Great news is that both Puck and Othello are making good recovery! The cats with the cold are coming to the end of their medicine and all except two seem to be recovered. Joan's cats are fighters!!
