    Story

In 2011 Helen was diagnosed with a brain tumour and had surgery to have it removed. Unfortunately the operation was unsuccessful which resulted in brain damage and total blindness. Up until this point she had a managerial accounts career but has now been left unable to work in any capacity and needs round the clock care.

Much of this care was taken on by her younger brother Neil. He himself has suffered from Chrones Disease for 26 years but in 2014 he required 3 major operations after which he was told his condition could no longer be treated surgically. His condition is therefore terminal as his bowel could block up at any time. This is further complicated by the discovery of Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy which has also become terminal. Recent blood tests have shown that his body is shutting down and he is now receiving palliative care. He has been rushed to hospital many times this year with conditions including Septicemia, a bowel blockage and cases of Pneumonia. On each occasion he was not expected to survive but he is fighting hard, against all the odds, because he is terrified of leaving his sister in her condition as he feels she has no security.

Depending on the amount of money raised they are looking at 2 options:

Their main goal would be to go to Thailand where they have their only living family who, unfortunately, cannot make it over to the UK due to their own restrictions. Here Neil would receive state of the art medical care and be in a comfortable environment. As this kind of care is private, but considerably cheaper than the UK, Neil would be able to receive much more nursing and Helen would be able to stay with him and be cared for also. This kind of care would not be affordable in the UK! When the time comes Helen would have the support of the family. Neil feels that in the right environment, and with 24 hour care, he may be able to extend his life. He wishes to end his life with as much dignity as possible, with his sister by his side. His greatest fear is to die in hospital alone which is extremely likely to happen in this country. Neil is very grateful for the NHS but due to the financial crisis the NHS is unable to provide the care Neil so desperately needs.

If they are unable to raise enough money to achieve the above goal then they would like to spend some quality time together, somewhere nice in Cornwall, near medical facilities, where they can make some special memories for Helen while Neil is still able to do so.

Thank you for reading. Please share, getting this to as many people as possible will help reach target. Any amount of donation is fantastic, both Neil and Helen are extremely grateful for everyones time and understanding xxx

Neil has been suffering with a virus which could have put him back in hospital. Luckily, so far, he had been able to remain at home and fingers crossed it stays that way. Please please dig deep everyone and help my lovely friends xx

I have known Helen and Neil for years and it is absolutely heartbreaking seeing them both struggle and suffer. They have been through some horrendous times and it saddens me to think of Neil losing his life and leaving Helen without her companion. I just wish I could help more.
