Story
Hi my name is Joey, I am a student at Regents Theological College and a Youth Worker at a Church in Worcester.
In June 2018 I am due to set out to Knysna, South Africa, where I will be assisting in the ministry of YFC South Africa at their Knysna Base. YFC (Youth For Christ) is a global charity that works with young people in many different life situations and aims to impart the message of the gospel into their lives, but also strives to practically support them where possible.
I will be working for 10-12 weeks in the YFC Base in Knysna on the South Western Coast. The base runs a variety of programs within the community and local schools, all with the aim to serve the local youth and families in the surrounding area. These programs can be found here: http://yfc.org.za/knysna/
During my time there I will be serving in the majority of the programs that run day-to-day at YFC Knysna, one that I am particularly interested in serving in is the ministry to young people who have very little or even nothing, giving them life-skills and ministering to their hearts, discovering who they want to be and encouraging and teaching them in that way.
With your help, If it is possible to reach the £1500 mark, the funds will contribute to the costings of food; accommodation, medical checks and vaccinations. This will go along with the personal funding that I will be putting towards this which is covering flights and equipment that may be needed for this 3 month trip. I have already booked flights, I am going, that has been decided - If you can support financially, great, but if you cannot, that is ok too, you've read this far, all I can ask is that you please Pray!
God has really set on my heart to see a 'new' Youth Ministry. A Youth Ministry that goes beyond the western mindset, goes beyond the one-size fits all mentality and aims to meet people in need where they are at and minister to them there. When I say 'new' aswell, I guess what I really mean is 'Old' right?Because that is what it was like back in the early church - Jesus washed the feet of those who followed him. I long to see a church that meets its people where they are at, and I believe this trip is something that will show me a small part of what God has placed in my vision.
So if you can give financially, bless you and thank you, if you cannot, bless you and thank you for reading, pray please!

6 years agoToday is 4 weeks until I will be landing in South Africa to work with YFC in Kynsna! It is closing in, I am slightly nervous but super excited to see what they are doing there and get stuck in! For those that don't know, I am a Youth Worker/Student based in Worcestershire.I have a history in Youth Work but I am yearning to see something different in the way in which we deliver youth work. The UK provides excellent programmes, but ive found many to be similar and I am longing to see it develop further. Read more and consider donating please!

7 years agoI can confirm that around 9:30 this morning we reached the summit of Snowdon. In total we started walking at 6:30am and finished at 12PM. It’s been tough, there have been tears, a slight bit of vomit (the results of Kettle Mint Cake), but with the help and encouragement of my 3 companions I managed to make it up and back down - Praise God! The deed is done, I set out and did what I said I would, so please, consider donating - the missions trip to South Africa is fast approaching! Please support this opportunity to go and serve! Thanks, Joey
