Story
David came here 11 years ago. His dream was that his family could join him. A refugee from the Congo DRC he had to flee. He was an academic and his life was threatened because he said unpopular things. In the UK he was put in a detention centre; his story not believed. He had poor health. He fought against the decision; was even put on a plane to return but a judicial review led to him getting refugee status.
He paid out 1000's of pounds to get his wife and 2 daughters here. They came. Now he faces a bill of £2,297 each! That is the fee by the Home Office to gain their status. And top of this there are legal fees. He - and his family - works all hours but cannot raise such a huge total. He has to raise this by 15th July otherwise the application fails.
Can you help, please? Even a small amount will help such a just cause. This is backed by John Akker MBE, former Executive Director, of the Council for at-Risk Academics. Founded in 1933 and lead by Lord Beveridge and supported by Albert Enstein. A cause they will have surely supported
.
What an indictment that such a large sum has to be raised by people that have so little. Please, please help David keep his family together.
Thank you.

7 years agoDear All ( and it is all! ), Many, many thanks on behalf of the Mpela family. Although the fund raised is less than needed we have been promised further other sums that will give us well over 60% of the total. An application has made to the Red Cross to provide funds for certain other costs. Your money will help a lot. We now go to our solicitors with the Mpela family to make the application. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

7 years agoThe Mpela family is so very grateful for all the support. A recent setback has been they will need to pass an English test despite having passed ESOL examinations set be a major FE college. This has been determined by the Home Office. The cost? £150 each! How many hurdles do they have to jump? With support they will get the status they so deserve in the UK. Thank you for the consideration you have personally given.
