    Story

Liam Fitzpatrick is my nephew and at the age of 5 was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (MD). https://www.mda.org/disease/duchenne-muscular-dystrophy

Liam has grown up with this awful disabilitating disease since the age of 5. This has prevented him from having a normal healthy childhood, being able to play like other children of his age. Instead Liam was more of an observer at his friends birthday parties rather than being able to run around and play with his friends.

Liam’s parents and family have kept Liam positive throughout his life, Liam is now 17 years old and studying at college. Liam‘s wheelchair is old and uncomfortable and needs replacing in order to give Liam more mobility and independence. The wheelchairs are expensive, grants can be awarded in order to replace them but the process is lengthy and does not always cover the full costs. It is for this reason that I want to complete a super sprint triathlon to try and gain sponsorship to help offset the costs towards a wheelchair that would enable Liam to have more independence and self confidence getting round and making the use of public transport a more viable option.

Wheelchairs are a necessity, not a luxury. Having the right chair is essential to Liam’s independence and long term health. Liam is planning to go to University in 2019. If you think that you can support this cause, thank you in anticipation. John
