    Story

    I visitied The Potter's Village, Ghana, in August and after being initially shocked by the living conditions I was also impressed by the efforts being made to build a new home for the children. This Christmas I'd like to give to the children as there is nothing that I need but plenty that they need.

    Below is an excerpt from Potter's Village that explains what they do and the problems they face;

    "The Potter's Village provides a home to over 120 children ranging from just three months to 24 years old. The children are cared for by staff, teachers, and volunteers and are provided with the appropriate affection, food, water, medical access and education. Currently, the children attend school within the home itself before progressing to Junior High, Senior High and even University. We provide children who have graduated with an opportunity to work with us in the school, bakery, and administration team and some even go on to work with other organisations.

    At the end of June 2017, Social Welfare came to visit the home and were very happy with what they saw overall. The children receive three nutritional and filling meals a day, substantial medical care when needed, and love by the staff, volunteers and their brothers and sisters in the home. However, Social Welfare communicated concerns with the state of the current building in which the children are living. Some of the concerns included unstable roofing, overcrowded bedrooms, and frequent flooding due to poor construction of the grounds

    The Potter's Village is a home and shelter to children and women who have been rescued from abuse and abandonment in Ghana and neighbouring countries such as Nigeria, Liberia and Togo. Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu founded our home in 2000 with our mission being to empower vulnerable young children and women to greatness through quality care, education and personal development. We opened as Women's Refuge and Child Survival Africa (WORCSA) before changing to "The Potter's Village" in 2011 with the name "Potter's Village" reflecting the aim of moulding the children into positive citizens of Ghana. Our overall vision is to create and ensure peace and unity for national, social, and economic development in Ghana and beyond."
