Story
In the months leading up to August me and my two friends, Archie and James, will be embarking on a epic and treacherous trek along the full length of the Peninne Way. This trip will take us from the gentle rolling hills of the peak district, Derbyshire, all the way to the ragged extremities of the Scottish borders and beyond. We will try to complete this empowering journey in under 3 weeks in our own time out of school. During this time we will be pushing ourselves to the limit and trying to finish 15-20 miles each day. These long hard days will contribute to the jaw dropping 267 miles that we will have completed at the end of the three weeks. after all of this we will then, hopefully with your help in sponsorship, have collected enough money to travel to Nepal with our college and complete charity work, skill and personality building activities to help us in our future lives.
My community project will be based in the village of Betrawati, approximately 76 km northwest of Kathmandu. The village and surrounding area is home to approximately 1,200 people. The area was severely damaged by the April 2015 earthquake and although there has been a big international effort to provide aid to Nepal, most of this does not extend beyond the big cities. This means that the small communities, close to the epicentre of the quake, receive little or no support from the government and many communities are still without homes, schools and jobs.
The earthquake badly damaged the local school in Betrawati (Uttargaya Public School) which educates students from ages 5 to 16. The local community are in the process of rebuilding the classroom blocks and hostel building. They are also looking to rebuild the bathroom block, library, and a small garden for the school students to play in. my team will be helping to get this school back on their feet – they are desperately in need of support and the help my team will provide.
In addition to helping with the repair efforts, the team will have the opportunity to engage with the local students; playing sport, teaching lessons and exchanging cultural knowledge.
If you would like to help, you can. please sponsor me any amount you feel is appropriate, whether for each leg of the walk or for the whole journey.
