This page has been put together in order to help raise awareness of Grade 1 Lissencephaly and support the Daniel family with their son Joseph, who was recently diagnosed with the condition at 4 months old.

Grade 1 Lissencephaly is an extremely rare brain disorder where the surface of the brain appears completely smooth. Although the condition is extremely rare, research into this has shown that babies diagnosed with the condition will be be severely affected neurally.

The condition affects 10 in every million babies, but grade 1 is the most rare of the condition and affects only two babies in every million. Although Joseph is an extremely happy and beautiful baby boy, he has a difficult road ahead, which is where we come in. This condition, and more specifically grade 1, results in most children not making it through infancy due to respiratory complications or seizures, which is why we need to raise awareness. Although the condition can't be reversed and cured it is important to research why it happens to try and help other families.

This page was set up to support a family that we all care dearly about. Not only does this condition affect the family emotionally, but there are extreme costs for Josephs treatment and to ensure he has the care that he needs. We would like to help and support a family that give so much to others and expect nothing in return.
Several people have expressed their wish to donate to Joseph's care and therefore have set up this page as two combined schools.
