Oct is breast cancer awareness month. I'm raising awareness of Metastatic Breast Cancer, breast cancer cells from the primary tumour spread to other parts of the body. If breast cancer spreads to the bone, the tumour in the bone is made up of breast cancer cells, not bone cells. The most common mets areas are bones, lungs,liver but can spread further inc the brain. Theres no cure and it's a life limiting disease. Treatment is systemic (whole body) by long term hormone/targetted treatments + chemo, all of which are gruelling and bring a lot of further medical issues inc low immune system/risk of life threatening infection, diabetes, osteonecrosis, osteoporosis + a whole host of other things - too many to list. Other side effects - hair loss, nausea, mouth ulcers, cold sores, loss of appetite etc., mean life for the MBC sufferer can be challenging and overwhelming.

The aim of this fundraising is to buy vouchers for various beauty treatments to help make someone feel better about themselves. The disease/treatment ravages the body and the psychological impact can also be huge. Receiving a gift like this might just brighten someone's day and give them a little bit of happiness.
I'm asking local businesses to donate their services or I can use any money raised to negotiate reduced rates or simply buy treatments.
During October, me and some friends/family plan to walk 50 miles . May seem much over a month but, having been diagnosed with MBC myself earlier this year, I have mets to my lung and chest wall which affects my breathing so this would be quite a feat for me.

18th Oct is World Breast Cancer Day - I plan to visit Barnsley Hospital chemo unit to distribute any gifts I've been able to buy or which have been donated. Anything donated after 18th will buy more gifts to be donated in a similar way. Please dig deep and support in any way you can - anything you give no matter how small would mean a great deal.
