Story
Following last years walk from Liverpool to Leeds in memory of Sam Mckalroy, I have become more involved with #ItsWorthTalkingAbout promoting women's mental health by providing a safe, confidential environment in Bingley for women in the local community, along with 17 + other volunteers providing support at both male and female only peer groups across the Bradford district and surrounding area's.
With restrictions still in place, rather than being to far away from my home town, I have chosen to walk the perimeter of the current groups running, which equates to a circumference of approximately 58.2 miles and to push myself further, my aim is to achieve this in 24 hours.
Further details of the walk will be submitted soon, as I am gathering support from friends and volunteers with the same interests.
The route will start from Bingley 00.00 (approximately), walking through to Shipley, Headingley, Tong, Queensbury, Wilsden, Haworth, Keighley, Silsden, hopefully getting back into Bingley around the 24 hours later.
Walking great distances has been a huge part of my life and therapy for my mental health and wellbeing, my intention is to show women and men that no matter what life has thrown at you, YOU can get through the tough times and it's thanks to the founders Ryan Anderton and Andy Clements that there are talking therapy groups available for both men AND women.
As #ItsWorthTalkingAbout is charity status pending, it just shows how far the organisation has come in less than 17 months and that there is so much more ahead, please donate and follow #ItsWorthTalkingAbout on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Men have long been recognised as being most at risk of suicide, but the Office for National Statistics recently reported the highest annual rate of female suicides in the UK since 2004. Author Claire Waddington, www.theconversation.com
