    Story

Firstly I should say I'm somewhat of a hypocrite writing this as everyday I see fundraising pages for nothing more than personal gain or reasons i feel are unjustified and here I am asking for help...because it's my last resort.

10 days ago kaalee was a happy healthy puppy playing with his siblings when suddenly he went "flat" which turned out to be a hypoglycemic episode (this is common in chihuahua puppies), he was treated, he perked up and was sent home, this happened 3 times before the vets had to admit him and try to get an Iv drip in his tiny leg, they suceeded but even with a stable blood glucose level he started having seizures, they managed to save him by injecting diazepam but he was weak and very unresponsive, so they told me the only option was to put him to sleep, I'd got very attached to this puppy, raising him for 10 weeks and giving him intensive care all night and day this past week. I went in to see him with his mum, he opened his eyes and saw her, rubbed his face against her and curled up on top of her - I couldn't put him down.

The alternative was to drive 2 hours to the queen mother royal veterinary college to see the specialist. Our vets recommended we took the whole litter for assessment but that we put kaalee down because he wouldn't survive the car journey. We were told that if we took them to the specialist it could cost £2000 per puppy if they needed treatment.
I let my heart lead and said we would take them including kaalee.
I felt awful at the thought of him suffering but I felt he still had character and I couldn't let him go.

After initial assessment the other 3 pups are well enough to return home and all have stable blood glucose levels.

Kaalee has made it through the night, he has stopped seizing and has a feeding tube in which has stabilised his blood glucose so the IV drip could come out. The intensive care cost and investigative tests could total £3000. So far we have paid £900 for his care/treatment.

Update ! The total cost for Kaalee's treatment reached £2500. Sadly Kaalee didn't improve as we had hoped and is no longer with us.

His sister Neela also became ill and although tiny and having suffered 4 severe hypo episodes shes still going strong, weighing just 550g at 15 weeks old she will stay with us forever getting the care she needs.

Thank you all for your support and donations. Sadly Kaalee didn't make it, he was no longer responding to treatment, they were keeping him alive at a cost of £250 a day, I still didn't want to give up but the vets were sure he wouldn't improve, it was a horrible decision to make. We are devastated. We are awaiting autopsy results to find out the cause for what happened to him. We are caring for his sister neela who also became ill she is making it through and will stay with us for life receiving the care she needs, she's a tiny fighter x

Kaalee is responding to tube feeding well. He Is no longer on the IV drip. They have not been able to take a full blood count as he's so tiny but they hope to get a better sample tonight if he's improving. The brain ultrasound was clear and neurological signs are good. He Is still in intensive care and is not very active or eating on his own. We hope he will continue to improve and will hear from the vets tomorrow. I had a cuddle with him today and he was much brighter and aware of his surroundings.

This litter was purpose bred from KC registered parents which we aquired from wonderful lines with the intention of keeping puppies back. We only have 3 girls at home. One is now retired and spayed, the other two just having had one litter each. Our dogs are very much our family.
