On 1st July Kim O’Keeffe (Kim Kim) & Karen Brown (Kaz) are taking part in this year's Clevedon Longswim - ok it's only a mile but it's a very long mile as the current will likely take us to Wales and back! And, have you seen how muddy that sea is (not to mention the sharks we'll have to dodge!). Money raised will help Claremont School, where Kim works as a carer, towards their current drive to purchase new mini-buses. Kim works so hard in her work and I know cares so much for the children's wellbeing through the stories she tells me of laughter and fun times, seeing the smiles on their faces enjoying activities. I also feel her frustrations when they cannot always take the children out of school, as they gain so much from enjoying, and being valued members of, their community, something we can all too often take for granted ourselves.

There are currently 2 mini-buses in constant use between the school's two sites. Each bus carries 4 children in wheelchairs; the average class size is 8 so both buses are required for a single class trip. It is becoming increasingly impossible to arrange activities external of either school, which is an unacceptable situation for the children as they gain such a great deal from these trips out. Parents often struggle or have no means of transporting their own children, so the school really does play a vital role in providing this important interaction for them.

As you can see, these specially adapted buses are costly, and boy we'd love to set our target high and get these children & young adults out and about pronto!! But we've set a target which we hope to reach, as we know that Claremont School will be so very appreciative of any donation whatsoever to hopefully get the buses as soon as they are able.
