I had the privilege of visiting Glory Reborn clinic in Cebu, Philippines last August for my midwifery elective visit. The clinic provides high quality, loving, holistic healthcare for pregnant women and babies who would otherwise be unable to afford good care. Many of Glory Reborn's clients live on less than $2 a day. Some of them live at the local rubbish dump where they survive by scavenging. The state hospital is shockingly under-resourced, with 4 or more women and their babies sharing one bed.
Glory Reborn clinic gives these families high quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, in an environment where they feel individually valued. Health education and screening is an important part of the programme, along with immunisations for the newborns. Weekly outreach visits to the dumpsite, red light district, women's prison and clients' homes provide free vitamins and medications, healthcare advice and ongoing relationships of support and respect.
I was so fortunate to be warmly welcomed as a part of this inspiring work for my short visit. All of the clinic's work is funded by voluntary donations, and I wanted to do something to help.
