'Heaven's Thunder' will be a new charity. The alchemy of music and horses creates unique theatre. Our aim is to produce just that. Our last show brought together riders, dancers, live singing and the spoken word. It evoked a deep emotional response in audience and participants alike and we asked ourselves why. How could we develop creative work that celebrates and explores this ancient bond? The natural progression is to create something where the horses shape the outcome, become collaborators in the work. We aim to bring people from disparate backgrounds together in a shared creative project. The horse is a great leveller.

This cross-pollination will introduce audiences and participants to different ‘worlds’ that do not meet in everyday life: riders to music; musicians to horses; people with learning difficulties to horses and riders; community singers to professional musicians; horse owners to writers and visual artists - the permutations go on. We aim to be as inclusive as possible.

This will, we believe, create a space where these unusual interactions mean that similarities, rather than differences, are discovered, new passions are aroused and new skills are learned.

We will gather stories from people in the area who own, ride or simply love horses and turn them into song, music, dance and visual images.

We will also be introducing people who may not have interacted with horses before and recording their feelings and perceptions. We are exploring the idea of the universality of humankind’s relationship with horses, therefore the diversity of the humankind involved in the project is key.

It goes without saying that our primary aim is to produce an outstanding piece of work, of artistic merit. The culmination will be a number of performances, accompanied by an exhibition.

The project will create memories. What better legacy than for someone to say: “Do you remember the time we saw that show with the beautiful horses?".
