Bereket fled Eritrea with his wife and children and came to the UK in 2014. He was building his life up by studying English and trying to find work. I taught him English for 3 months and got to know him as a person. He was a positive, genuine hard-working man who just wanted to provide for his family and would have found a job contributed to the community. On 27 May he was walking along Roundhay Road, Leeds, on the pavement - when a young driver who was speeding, mounted the pavement and hit him. Bereket was thrown over the top of the car and underneath a bus. He was taken to hospital but remained in a coma for 10 days, and died without recovering. His widow is on benefits and is left with 3 children under the age of 7, the youngest being one year old.The car driver had no insurance as I understand it and she is struggling to afford funeral or repatriation costs. I would like to get as much help for her as possible. The whole Eritrean community are devastated by this but can not raise a great deal of money. Any little you can give will be appreciated.
