One cold evening in 2015, 7 thousand people turned out to visit a little street in Accrington, why? Because a couple of business owners on this old fashioned street decided to take the plunge and organize a Dickensian evening, complete with a torchlight parade for everybody to join, led by The Accrington Pipeband. One of the best comments I heard was 'you didn't have to spend money if you didn't have any' I could easily fill this section with the highlights! The problem we face is that we expected 3000 people at most, this year we are expecting Ten thousand! this means we have a massive rise in costs to cover insurance and address the health and safety issues that are caused by so many attending, we need to have a proper stage (with lighting and generators) extra marquees with generators and lighting, extra safety and first aid equipment, extra toilets (especially for our disabled visitors!) and a bigger road closure than last year. We want to keep these events free so they can be enjoyed by everybody despite their financial circumstances and create happy memories of the 'True meaning of Christmas' for generations to come. This year will be better than ever and we hope to be able to continue this event for many, many years to come.
