Story
We are taking part in the Horndon 10k on the 24th June 2018 to help raise money for Katie's vital healthcare that is not available on the NHS! Katie has a serious complex arrhythmia which was diagnosed in 2012 after a horrible incident where she nearly drowned in a swimming lesson. Katie has recently been diagnosed with another rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. There is no cure for this condition and the symptoms and effects this condition has on a child are massive, let alone a child who already has a serious heart condition. The NHS do not seem to have enough knowledge of EDS so treatment is very limited. Harley Street have a clinic that specialises in this condition but their treatment is self funded. Katie also needs genetic screening, which is also not being funded by the NHS, to see which type of EDS she has as there are 13 different types. Some are life threatening! Katie has done so much for other children, raising over £35,000 and loads of awareness for other children with heart conditions, and supplying 12 public access defibrillators to the community, now we are helping to get Katie the treatment she needs!

6 years agoJust to let you all know Katie has won the prestigious Lady Diana Award and has been added to the Roll of Honours list. She is going to an awards London in July to be presented with her award. This is for all of her charity work over the years. We are so very proud of her ❤️ We would also like to say a massive thank you to all of you who have sponsored the 10k team! 👏🏻

6 years agoHad a bit of bad news regarding moving forward with treatment, because of Katie's Heart condition she can't have hydrotherapy. The temperature of the water causes her blood pressure to drop and her heart rate increase. This can trigger episodes and cause fainting, this has already happened before. So we are on a mission to find a local physiotherapist who specialises in EDS Hypermobility type! Thanks for everyone's support and we'll wishes xx

6 years agoHi all. Katie's not had a good week this week as her hip (sacro-illiac joint) subluxated and caused painful back spasms. We've seen Katie's physio this week and because Katie can't do her physiotherapy because of the pain (and she cant take anti inflammatory pain relief due to her heart condition) she will regress. So we have no choice but to bring Katie's treatment forward and start hydrotherapy physiotherapy as soon as possible. We will keep you updated on how she gets on with this and thank you for reading, sharing and donating. KHA Team
