    Story

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to work with the less fortunate than myself. I have been given the amazing opportunity to give back to those in need and this July I’m volunteering with Frontier for at least 4 weeks on Mafia Island. A tiny island off Tanzanian coast where I will be helping teach students basic English.

Tanzania, though beautiful and welcoming, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Access to basic education is scarce and many people in rural areas rely on subsistence farming to sustain a living. This is my chance to change the lives of children of Mafia Island for the better. I hope to inspire them to want to learn new skills everyday which will benefit them in the future.

I’ve chosen this particular project as I feel very passionate about children’s wellbeing. I am surrounded by them most of the time; I come from a huge family - I’m an auntie to 17!!! My nieces and nephews age from 6 months to 22 years of age and I feel hugely fortunate to have grown up in the UK, where each of my family members have received free education.

I also work on a Children’s and a Young Persons Ward in my local hospital. Working with children every day makes me incredibly happy and I cannot wait to meet and help the children of Mafia Island. The children I will be teaching are eager to learn but sadly faced with lack of funding, school supplies and many other things we take for granted on daily basis.

I’m raising funds to help contribute to the costs of the teaching programme. It would be super duper appreciated if you could spare as little as £5 (a cost of a large meal at maccy’s) towards the project. It’s important to add that everything I fundraise is going towards the teaching programme and NOT my travelling costs.

Massive thanks to everyone for taking the time to read my story and for all of your donations and support!! I can’t express how grateful and excited I am to be pursing this opportunity.

    Kayla :)
