Iʼve raised £622 to aid Unison Kinneil Band after a devastating fire that destroyed their band hall on 4/6/19, with a 220 mile walk on the Southern Upland Way.

Story
On the 4th of June a fire started in the grounds of Bo'ness Utd stadium. This quickly spread to the band hall of Unison Kinneil, sited next to the ground. Unfortunately the fire took hold severely damaging the building (built by members of the band many years ago) and destroying much of what was inside. As well as instruments and their extensive library of music being destroyed, many irreplaceable items from the bands 160 year history have sadly been lost.
Understandably, this has been absolutely devastating for the band and the Bo'ness community with which they have very close ties. As a former playing member, the band is still part of my banding family and this has hit close to home.
I will be walking the 220 mile or so Southern Upland Way between the 11th and 29th of July (next month) from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath. I invite you to sponsor me for this walk, as little or as much as you like (even £1 would help) to kickstart the process of rebuilding, not just the bandhall, but the organisation (music, instruments and uniforms amongst other things).
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Mon the Kinneil!

5 years agoFirstly a final thank you to all who donated. The page is now closed and I passed on cheques to the band totalling £690 on Monday 9/9/19. Even better is that Unison Kinneil tonight (14/9/19) became 1st section National Champions at the Brass band National Final competition held in Cheltenham. It's been a fraught time for the band and this is a fantastic achievement for the band in light of the year they have had. Thanks once again on behalf of the band for your support. British 1st section Champions 2019!

5 years agoA final update. The Southern Upland Way conquered on Sunday. Finally rolled into Cockburnspath around 7 o’clock Sunday night. Thank you for your support. It’s been a great (but tough) trail and a fantastic experience. So far the total stands at £712 which includes £90 offline donations (thanks to Nitten Silver, Lofty Fletcher and Chris Griffey). A last share would be great. Thanks once again! Aaron

5 years agoA wee update for you all, and to thank you once again for your fabulous support. Currently in Wanlockhead, approximately at the halfway point and a week into the Southern Upland Way. Only another 106 or so miles to go! £692 has been raised so far, which includes £70 offline donations. Fantastic walk, but very strenuous in places. Here’s to the second half!

My late husband Stuart was involved with brass bands since he was a young boy. I know he would have been devastated at the loss of all the instruments etc. A lot of history destroyed.

Solo euphonium with Newtongrange Silver Band and former member of Unison Kinneil. It has been almost 20 years since I was a member of the band. I owe them much for the opportunity to play at the top level in Scotland. This will, in a small way help them get back on their feet.
