    Story

I want to fund the initial stages of a food farming project in the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert in the south of Morocco.

For the last 4 years I have been working with schools in remote villages within the region delivering donated kids clothes, school equipment, tooth brushes and paste and toys. Working closely within communities, it is clear that clothes for children is not the only help that is needed in the area.

Mhamid el Ghizlane is a small town in the south east of Morocco, at the very end of the road into the desert: think sand dunes, palm trees and camels! It's the furthest point away from the affluent northern agriculture land and more than 450km from Marrakesh via single track lanes and mountain passages through the Atlas Mountains. Its a long journey for fruit, vegetables and fresh produce delivered to the town that decay on route and supplies that arrive are of poor quality that have been rejected by other towns and villages along the way.

During the past 4 years I have seen natural disasters that destroy roads used by delivery trucks meaning the much needed supplies don't arrive. People starve. These communities need to begin to produce their own crops and work towards becoming self sustaining. This will also lower costs of buying food in these poverish areas as delivery costs will not be added. I often ask myself how can it cost more in an African country for simple foods such as potatoes, pasta and rice than in the UK??

I want to use specially developed farming techniques focusing on conservation of water and maximising available space to yield of crops ranging from wheat, potatoes, onions and spices such as cumin as well as vegetation to support livestock in these harsh climate conditions

Having very limited funds of my own I desperately need help to change the outlook on life for these wonderful people who survive daily on the bare minimum.
