Story
We have all been shocked by the current situation as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, and we wanted to respond to help our NHS frontline workers and other care providers. We made contact with some of those and were advised of their needs.
To date the Art Department has donated materials to nursing home residents who will not have visitors, and the Science Departments have donated protective eye goggles which were very gratefully received. We have used donations received from pupils and staff of LGS to purchase several litres of 70% alcohol hand sanitiser, surface and skin wipes, as well as food stuffs and drinks for staff rooms.
These items were sent to the Nightingale Hospital in Belfast, Antrim Area Hospital and the Dalriada GP Hub Assessment Centre in Ballymena. We also donated some hand sanitiser to the Belfast Trust for use in centres offering care for the preschool children of front line workers.
We have also been manufacturing safety visors, with a target of at least 500 in our sights. The material to manufacture these can be expensive and is becoming harder to source.
Since this appeal is ongoing, we hope to be able to continue for as long as the need arises.

4 years agoWe are now well past the 1000 visor mark. We have supplied PPE to chemists, Care Homes, health centres, Vets and Homecare. We are trying to source medical masks at the moment as there continues to be a great shortage of these across the province . Thank you for you continued support Photo below is Mr McCoy delivering Medial gloves, Bottles of sanitiser and 80 face visors to Carrickfergus Homecare after the mother of past pupils got in contact asking if we could help.
