I am going to Uganda in July for my elective midwifery placement wih the charity Knowledge for Change. This is a lifechanging trip which will enable me to gain experience of maternity care for women in the developing world. Worldwide many women and babies die unecessarily in pregnancy and childbirth due to lack of appropriate and safe healthcare services. Improving the availability of healthcare services in these countries would prevent many of the unnecessary deaths. Money raised for the charity Knowledge for Change funds vital improvements to healthcare services for people in countries with high levels of socio-economic disadvantage, such as Uganda. I will be working alongside midwives in the hospitals and health centres, providing care to women who live in the local area. Any funds raised will go towards travel costs, vaccinations and a donation to the charity to improve the access to healthcare services.
