Story
We're looking to raise funds for 2 local charities that you may never have heard of, but make such a difference to animal's lives.
The Last Chance Hotel saved Teri's Japer from the pound. At 6 months he'd been through 3 homes and he found himself a "poundie". His 7 days were almost up and he needed a safe space. His LCH foster mum collected him from the pound and the rest his as they say is history. Unfortunately there are many other animals who are not so lucky.
Lucy adopted her youngest dog Pepper and would like to help other animals find their forever homes too. Lucy also has another dog, Layla, a cat and 2 rabbits.
Vicki has 2 cats, Betty and Borris but has grown up with dogs too and would like to help raise some funds for LCH and R4P.
The Last Chance Hotel is based in Cornwall and works hard to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abused and neglected dogs and other animals.
They take in animals of any kind - but predominantly dogs that other rescue centres cannot take, including ex-bait and ex-fight dogs, the sick, the aged and the terminally ill.
Animals go to LCH for rehab and either go to new homes or remain with them for life. Some just go in for peace and love before they die, after a life of neglect and abuse. No animal is ever destroyed because they cannot be homed.
They are always looking to raise funds for vet bills etc. LCH work closely with Lamorna Vets in Pool to help nurse those sick animals back to health or at least live the rest of their life as comfortably as possible.
Pets are often the silent, forgotten victims of domestic violence and abuse, used as part of the pattern of coercion and control, threatened, yelled at, beaten, kicked and in some cases killed…
We provide a pet fostering service in Cornwall and Devon so that individuals and families can escape violent and abusive relationships to access the safety and support that they need before being reunited with their pets.
Often individuals and families escaping violent and abusive relationships are unable to take their much loved pets with them. In many cases this will stop people from leaving. With domestic violence and abuse being one of the most significant public health concerns that we experience in the UK, combined with the fact that over half of all households have pets this is a vital service!
R4P foster dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles, rabbits and small furies such as hamsters for up to six months. Their foster carers are volunteers who are committed to caring for animals and are carefully recruited to make sure they offer the best possible temporary foster homes.
They understand that victims/survivors of domestic violence and abuse often have to leave with nothing which is why all of the pets that they foster receive the vet treatment that they need, food and bedding paid for by the charity.
