Story
Litter in this country is a national disgrace and one of the things Zilch UK does is work to persuade those in positions of power and influence to do more to eliminate the problem at source.
The Government's recently announced National Litter Strategy is a step in that direction.
The people at the front line of the battle against littering are the Councils, Street Cleansing Contractors, te Environmental Enforcement Officers, Transport Network Operators and Volunteers. They are challenged with both clearing the rubbish discarded by the irresponsible and taking steps to bring about a change towards responsible disposal behaviour.
The conference being run by Public Policy Exchange provides an opportunity for those doing somthing about the problem to present their actions and for those attending to learn from them and exchange experiences and views.
Zilch UK wants to have at least two delegates at the conference so that we can see and hear for ourselves what is being done, know who is doing what and be able to report back to our constituency on the progress or otherwise of the endeavour.
So this is to ask you for a financial contribution to help get us there.
When everyone gives a little we can achieve a lot.
FAQs
Why do we need the money?
Those involved with Zilch give their time for free but we rely on our constituency for financial support to cover our costs. We have no overheads and so every peny goes to supporting the network. The amount being asked for covers the cost for two delegates at the "early-bird" rate plus a quota for travel expenses.
What's the deadline?
To obtain the reduced rate tickets they will need to be bought before 1st September 2017.
Why have you chosen to use JustGiving?
JustGiving has a straightforward 5% commission fee structure with nothing being charged if no money is raised and is therefore the simplest and least costly of the crowdfunding platforms for the amount being sought.
What if I don't want to use JustGiving?
You can still make a contribution either via PayPal (which accepts credit cards) or by direct bank transfer and these are available from the donation page on our website.
What happens if you don't hit the target?
Zilch will still receive whatever money is raised. If it's not enough to send two delegates, just one will go. If not enough is raised to cover the cost of one person any funds received will go to support the network's activities.
Who are to be the delegates?
Quentin plans to attend unless work commitments intervene. The second delegate has not yet been selected and if you'd like to put yourself forward to be that person please get in touch.

Zilch UK
7 years agoWith these contributions and direct donations we're now more than half-way to our target of £350 so let's see whether we can't go all the way and get two people to the symposium. Enormous thanks to those who've given so far and for the encouraging messages; with them an otherwise thankless and arduous task becomes bearable. And don't forget, every penny goes towards furthering the objective of eliminating littering.

Keep up the excellent work but remember that clean streets means much more than free of litter ...a chicken and egg quandary.
