Story
The Eston mum and her partner Gareth Walsh received the devastating news that their daughter Darcyana had a brain tumour when she was just 21-months old.
The youngster, now three, spent weeks being treated for the life-threatening condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and is due to have her last round of chemotherapy next week.
However, less than a year later, the family faced another devastating diagnosis when Debbie was told she had secondary breast cancer which, by the time it was discovered, had already spread to her bones.
But Debbie has vowed to stay strong for Gareth, 28, and their little fighter Dacryana after the double tragedy struck
Proud Gareth added: “I am so proud of them both for being so strong, the way they have got on with it. And yeah, it’s difficult watching them at their worst but on a good day, it makes up for it.”
'Darcyana is the bravest girl I've ever met'
And in recognition of their positive outlook on life, the pair have been nominated for a Gazette Community Champion Award 2016.
