    Story

At the moment aid agencies are concentrating on providing relief in the north coastal region affected by the first earthquake, however the second quake caused devastation to the more central and western areas of the island, which so far are not receiving any aid. In this area whole villages have been flattened, water supplies disrupted and roads have become impassable. We have raised some money and are providing cooking gas to boil water, temporary shelters and food. We are also building communal kitchens, enabling the community to come together and support each other and providing large water storage tanks to help prevent water born diseases. A team of 20 motorbikes is getting to villages that have been made inaccessible by landslides and a second team is using a pick up truck, which can carry greater quantities of aid to villages that can still be reached by road. This initiative has been set up by my brother-in-law's extended family and other local people, who have also been affected by the quake. We will be using your money to buy supplies from local markets as trade has been badly hit. £10 will feed a family for a week, £20 buys tarpaulins to shelter 2 families, £50 builds a communal kitchen and provides enough cooking gas for the entire village. Any money you are able to donate will go directly to provide supplies to people who need it most.

We are delivering large water storage tanks to many remote villages so they can collect and store water safely to cut down on the chance of water borne diseases. There still continue to be aftershocks which means people cannot start to rebuild. They are living in tents in the open. Due to the terrain, these places are really difficult to reach at the best of times but with infrastructure damage they have been virtually cut off. Thank you again for your support
