Mrs Powley will be leaving our school at Easter, after twenty-one years in charge of Lord Deramore’s. During that time, she has had overall responsibility for the education and welfare of over 800 children at our school!
Many parents and pupils, from past and present, have asked if there is a collection for Mrs Powley, so they can show their appreciation.
Mrs Powley has respectfully asked that, if people wish to make a contribution, she would like the money to go towards equipping a sensory room in the new school. A sensory room is a specially designed space which combines a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses. These can include lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects and aromas all within a safe environment.
A sensory room can help those who have learning difficulties, developmental disabilities or sensory impairments learn to interact with the world around them. It can also provide a safe and calming space for children who are struggling to regulate their emotions or who are experiencing anxiety. It would also provide an ideal space to teach all children relaxation techniques and for group work across the school.
The costs for professionally equipping and fitting this facility range from £3,000 for a starter pack to £8,000 for something really special.
